28th Annual Susquehannock Trail PRO Rally,
Round #4, June 4 - 6, 2004
www.stpr.org press notes #9- 6/6/04 - 9:00 AM

31. All the top cars passed impound, and the Shane Mitchell/Glenn Patterson Subaru Impreza is indeed the overall winner at STPR. As the only driver with a chance to catch Patrick Richard for the Group N points chase, this was a vital race for Mitchell, especially since Richard took nine minutes of penalty points related to his brake problems mentioned before. Because his Subaru has a cracked brake caliper and was leaking fluid, Richard had to pinch off the rear brake lines, causing him to be nine minutes late to a checkpoint - a nine-minute penalty from the STPR organizer. Not to mention having to run the last three stages with no rear brakes. Patrick finished seven overall and fourth in Group N, salvaging what may be valuable points at the end of the season, but it was a missed opportunity to virtually clinch both overall and Group N titles for the season.

32. Despite their DNF in the national event and the Finger Lakes ClubRally (stages 5-10), the #774 Otis Dimiters/Peter Monin Subaru WRX scored a 13-second victory in the Sherwood Forest ClubRally (stages 1-4) over the Subaru WRX of Patrick Farrell/Kieman McElhinney. The Finger Lakes ClubRally went to Farrell and McElhinney, who beat the Mazda 323GTX of Tom Ottey/Pam McGarvey by two minutes.

33. 31 of the original 58 cars were running at the finish, with only 17 national competitors finishing the 10-stage event. It was the first time in memory that the top three overall positions in a national rally were occupied by three different class vehicles, and the first time a 2WD vehicle finished on the podium. It was also the first win for an American-born driver since Paul Choiniere and Jeff Becker won Sno Drift in a Hyundai in 2001. With Patrick Richard in contention for both the U.S. and Canadian rally titles, one might remember that Choiniere is also the only one to win both the U.S. and Canadian titles the same year, although Selcuk Karamanaglu won both PGT titles in 1997.
