| Fri 22-Apr-05 16:26 | Welcome to Oregon Trail Rally 2005. We are live at Portland International Speedway tonight for the first leg of the event. The teams will run five stages for a total of 11.52 stage miles. We will see the cars in for a quick service between each stage so check back often for all the information. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 16:30 | Car 0, driven by JB Niday, gets ready to start Special Stage 1. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:07 | For those of you looking at the start list, you will note that it states that the standard one minute window between cars; however, tonight the competitors will be starting on a 30 second window. We are at Portland International Raceway on the tarmac portion of this event, and the stages are short, so the 30 second window is more than adequate. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:14 | Car 233, Eklund / Price, spun on Special Stage 2 and did some minor damage. They are also having boost problems and are attempting to fix the car at this time. They are in search of a new turbo hose. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:14 | Car 107 has withdrawn from the event due to a dropped cylinder. While this is bad for the team, John Allen has made the best of it, and is now co-driving for Car 227, Nelson / Allen. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:21 | Car 1, Richard / Richard broke a drive shaft on the start of Special Stage 1. The team was able to replace it in service and they have continued. |

| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:30 | Car 88 were forced to withdraw from the event due to an engine problem on the practice stage on Wednesday. They believe they floated the valves and damaged the head. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 17:41 | The sky is turning very dark and it looks like it is getting ready to pour. The cars are running Special Stage 4 and they will be turning in their time cards shortly after they finish. There will be a 90 minute service break before the cars run Special Stage 5 starting in reverse order. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 18:23 | Car 26, Kendall / Friberg, in their Carter Engineering sponsored Talon, filled out a Rally America Update Form (available for download on this site), they stated "nice breeze in the car, (due to the) back hatch glass that exploded at the start of Special Stage 3. (We) shut the hatch at the start and it imploded....good thing it's a nice day" |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 18:46 | Car 288, Cavett / Dillon stated that the car is going well despite an early problem (at tech) with smoke under the hood. The problem was with the tape that is used to wrap the turbo. The team removed the tape and the smoke went away. John would like to thank Perforce Software for staying on with Widget Rally Team this year, and he would like to encourage everyone to check out the team's progress at their website, www.perforce.com/wrt. Both Gary and John are delighted to be at Oregon Trails; this is their first Rally America National Event together. John would also like to thank Rob Marssdorf, who is their "Oregon crew guy". Rob really bailed them out with some graphics that he came up with in very short order this weekend. |

| Fri 22-Apr-05 19:09 | Car 203, Heredos / West is experiencing carburetor issues. Despite that, the team has finished each stage anyway and they are still in good spirits and hope to get things fixed for tomorrow. The teams Group 5 1982 Mazda RX-7 is sponsored by Mazda competition. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 19:15 | Car 233, Eklund / Price has had a harried start and would like to welcome everyone to Oregon!! The team is really looking forward to the forest tomorrow. Dave would like to say "Hi" to Heather. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 19:34 | It has started to rain again and we have been slightly delayed. The first cars will be starting Special Stage 5 in just a few minutes. The competitors are taking this down time to relax and mingle in the service area. |

| Fri 22-Apr-05 19:48 | Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski was well behaved on their maiden voyage. Not only is the Autosport Engineering Subaru new, but it is also Cindy and Wyeth's first time together in the car, and they are having fun!! |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 19:58 | Car 776, Klassen / Feistel had an interesting Special Stage 4. Just prior to Special Stage 4, the thunder, lightning, and rain appeared, causing tree branches to drop into the road. The team had an "adventure" on that stage and described tonight's stages as awesome. It is the team's first time on tarmac, as well as their first time together, and they are doing well as they have already caught the Datsun in front of them. Lisa would like to thank Tombstone, Chase Auto, and Technosquare. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 20:47 | Car 207, Hintz / Hintz told us "our goal today is to be the fastest car that isn't using tarmac tires! On Special Stage 2 we got lost and it cost us 20 seconds." The team is sponsored by Dave Clark Motorsports. |

| Fri 22-Apr-05 21:30 | Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison had some clutch issues early in today's stages; the clutch was slipping in all gears and they lost 6 seconds on Special Stage 3. | Fri 22-Apr-05 22:04 | Car 649, Crane / Keith DNF'd on Special Stage 5 with a broken transmission mount. They plan to fix it tonight and rejoin the rally tomorrow. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 22:33 | Special Stage 5 has been cancelled due to unforeseen delays. Due to the fact that some competitors ran the stage before it was cancelled, the stewards will be deciding what the final decision will be relative to Special Stage 5. We will post more information as it becomes available. |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 22:43 | Car 452, Foster / Rounds dropped off another update. Kala states "The Fling Pu RX-3 blew away the competition on the super special by over half a minute, however, the April full moon didn't help as the team stumbled through the dark night on the back access roads and grassy fields of PIR. We're looking forward to a great day of rally tomorrow!" |
| Fri 22-Apr-05 22:45 | For those of you wondering what the status of Car 49, Thompson / Marr is and if the team was having issues, it apparently has been an interesting evening for the team. It all started on Special Stage 1 with the team losing a power steering belt. That was fixed. On Special Stage 2, the team put on tarmac tires and that did not work out so well...And then Special Stage 3, there was the a trip to the ER for one of the crewmembers for a few stitches, but the car and the crewmember are fine. Finally, there was Special Stage 4, when Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge spun!!! Again, the car is fine! Needless to say, it has been an eventful evening! Today was the first time that Sans had a chance to drive the new Dodge, and the team says they have got it figured out and it is great to be back in a Dodge; they would like to direct people to their website at www.jaggededgemotorsport.com. |

| Sat 23-Apr-05 09:10 | Car 46, Johnson / Robinson Nakamoto had a spin on Special Stage 1 on the tarmac last night, which Matt detailed as a product of having gravel tires on, but driving as if he had tarmac tires. He waited just a little too long to turn in, but there was no visible damage to the car. Despite the fact that the team lost some time on Special Stage 1, and had another full spin on Special Stage 2, they "ate dust" because they were catching Car 600, McCarthy / Collins on both Special Stage 2 and Special Stage 4! Matt is excited to be getting out on the gravel stages today! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 09:13 | Car 438, Bartosek / Flagg had a problem with a turbo hose on Special Stage 4, and were DNF'ed for the Wagon's Ho Rally, but the crew has fixed the problem and the team will be starting 36th in the Oregon or Bust Rally today. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 09:22 | Car 649, Crane / Keith broke a trasmission mount on Special Stage 5 and at the time we spoke to them, it was unknown what additional damage they may have incurred. The team has apparently fixed any problems they may have had, and will be starting 45th in todays Oregon or Bust rally. This is Cody's second rally, and Marks first one, and they are excited to be here this weekend. The team would like to thank Cody's Dad (and the whole family) for all their support and would like to thank Bill Price for the helmet that Mark is using!!! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 09:51 | Car 866, Penasack / McLelland, in their Subaru of Nashua Wazoo Racing WRX, had a strong leg on Friday night. The car is solid and good to go for today's gravel stages. Tim and Rob would like to thank Subaru of Nashua and Team O'Neil for all their support. |

| Sat 23-Apr-05 10:15 | Here are some images from Parc Expose at the Hillsboro Stadium. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 10:24 | The teams gather for the Drivers Meeting. Teams were told that they needed to avoid ditch hooking on the stages due to the deep ditches and the damage it causes to the roads. The organizers have placed hay bales along the route as a friendly reminder to the competitors. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 10:25 | Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni take the start of day two of the Oregon Trail Rally. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:21 | Sorry for the delay in updates, but we have just done the 69 mile transit from the Hillsboro Stadium to the Trask Store where we will be for the remainder of today's leg. It is currently raining lightly, and it is an overcast day. This will likely keep the dust down and level the playing field, as it is unlikely anyone will get stuck in another's dust today!!! The cars have completed Special Stage 6, and are starting to come into service. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:26 | Relative to last night's stages, Car 947, Bacon / Watt reports having "fun". They had an interesting time on the tarmac last night. Bill states that there is a lot of rally left, and their goal now is to go for the finish. They would like to thank Subaru of Nashua for their support, and their crew for all their help. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:34 | Car 774, Dimiters / Monin won the Wagon's Ho! Rally last night, report no problems and that the car was great. As for today, they would like to get some better times today in the National. It is their goal to go as fast as they can, knowing that they cannot lose any time given the level of the competition. So, today the team will be doing their best and not holding back, but despite that, they are also looking to have some fun! Car 774, Dimiters / Monin would like to thank NC Subaru and Autosport Engineering for their support. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:43 | Car 26, Kendall / Friberg has replaced their back window after it's implosion last night, and it is a great rally repair - a combination of plexiglass, screws, and black duct tape! The team is excited, and think it should be a good rally for them as they really like this event! They are happy about the possibility of rain today and their wish is coming true, as it is now starting to rain harder! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:47 | Car 676, McElduff / Irwin used the tarmac stages last night as a test of the car, and they described it as different, but good (despite a small clutch issue, that is now sorted)! They are excited for the gravel stages that they are accustomed to today and are ready to go! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 12:47 | Car 294, Dash / Weld is being reported as stopped (safely) at the flying finish on Special Stage 6. We will report more details as they become available. |

| Sat 23-Apr-05 13:43 | Car 203, Heredos / West reports that "the car is fixed and fast! Thanks to our awesome crew for rebuilding the carb in the dark last night. Joe, Mike, Dan, Adam, and Jay...you're the best!" The 1982 Mazda RX-7 is sponsored by Mazda Competition. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 13:55 | Car 274, Rodzinski / Rodzinski was reported to be off briefly just past the spectator area on Special Stage 7. They have continued and it sounds like they finished the stage. We hope to catch them when they come in after running Special Stage 9. Please be aware that we are not located at the primary service area so our ability to get information from the teams will be somewhat dimished. We will do our best to catch them while they are in the regrouping control. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 13:58 | Car 438, Bartosek / Flagg is reported off and OK on Special Stage 7. |

The team is currently tied for 2nd in the Cascade Cup, and are looking to move into 1st. 1st position is currently held by Nate Tennis. The team would also like to get the Driver's Choice award, so they are encouraging people to go to www.cascadeautogroup.com/cascadecup and vote for their favorite 2 wheel drive car of the weekend. The team would like to thank Cascade Autosport for all their help and for sponsoring the Cascade Cup. On Special Stage 6, the teams day got interesting when they rolled the car completely over. Everyone is fine, and the team was able to continue through the stage. Car 298, Thomson / Blackburn has come into service, and after an inspection by the stewards to ensure the safety of the car (due to the roll), they have conducted the necessary repairs, and are back on stage. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:30 | We have been busy out getting updates as te cars have started to come into the 2nd service of the day. The unofficial times of the top five spots are as follows: Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni 44:05.3 Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom 44:34.4 Car 1, Richard / Richard 44:43.0 Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge 44:50.2 Car 43, Block / Gelsomino 45:23.3 |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:34 | Car 43, Block / Gelsomino has been setting pretty respectable stages times in their DC Shoe sponsored, Vermont SportsCar supported Subary STI, under what the team detailed as "tricky" conditions. They stated that the conditions are mixed and challenging, but are enjoying themselves. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:40 | Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski was singing a song about "slip, slip, slip, sliding away" when they came into service!! Apparently, the stages are very slippery and there is some wet grass on the edge of the road, that can catch a team out if they are not careful! The team is experiencing fogging issues, but other than that, everything is going great and they are currently being listed in 7th position. Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski would like to thank Autosport Engineering for all their support and for building a great car! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:44 | This is the first time ever that the team of Car 288, Cavett / Dillon has run brand new rally tires, and they are very excited about their new Yokohamas. They would like to thank Dan Sprongl for them! The biggest problem the team has experienced is the shut off of their in car video. The team is running in car video in the car, but are bummed that it shut off on the stage where they felt they did their best. Gary and John would like to thank all the Widget Rally fans out there for their endless support. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:48 | Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom reported a "lackluster" Special Stage 8, Travis had a little trouble finding a rhythm for that stage, but was able to pick things back up on Special Stage 9. The team had fun on the downhill sections of the stage. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 15:58 | Car 429, Foust / Crouch had a heated battle going with Car 323, Verdier / Walker until they spun and lost 30 seconds to them. Verdier had two flats on Special Stage 8 that they drove out giving the lead back to Foust by about 10 seconds. Unfortunately the battle ended on Special Stage 9 when car 323 spun and became high centered. Foust and Crouch were disappointed to have lost their closest competition, but they are having a great time on the "grippy" roads with no dust! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:06 | Car 46, Johnson / Robinson Nakamoto are having some trouble adjusting to 4wd after running a Golf for so long. The team spun once on Special Stage 6, twice on Special Stage 7, and ran Special Stage 8 and Special Stage 9 cleanly. Matthew's only real complaint is a sore rear end due to a seat that is a little too small. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:07 | The cars checking in at the control and receiving instructions on being weighed. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:13 | We have reports that there are a number of cars off on Special Stage 9: Car 274, Rodzinski / Rodzinski Car 258 Car 240, Blakely / Pinter Car 438, Bartosek / Flagg Car 297, Greer / Greer Car 323, Verdier / Walker All are reported OK. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:22 | Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison reports the roads to be really fun, even though they are "slippy". This is the second time on notes for the driver and the first for the codriver, but so far, the notes are working well for them, and they are "loving" the stages. The team would like to thank the organizers for a great event, and the workers for all their hard work. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:23 | Car 252, Trinder / Trinder reports that the roads are pretty slippery on the stages. The driver was 'complaining' that the clocks and workers are on the wrong side of the car...for a right hand drive car that is. (haha) He has a little more appreciation for the co-driver I think! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:27 | Car 774, Dimiters / Monin boiled their brakes on the downhill section of Special Stage 6 this morning, but it didn't cause too much trouble. The exposures are a little scary but the scenery is good! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:27 | Car 207, Hintz / Hintz report the stages to be slippery, but fun; Special Stage 9 was one of their best yet today. The team is being careful, "keeping it clean", yet trying to move up. They are just trying to keep the car on the road and are reporting no problems with the car and no "moments". Rick and Dave would like to thank Dave Clark for prepping the car, the organizers for a great event, and the workers for all their hard work. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:33 | A bad shift linkage has caused problems for Car 947, Bacon / Watt. They lost at least three minutes on Special Stage 8 and another minute on Special Stage 9. They can get 1st and 3rd gear for the most part, so they ran all of Special Stage 9 in 3rd. They hope to fix the problem in service. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 16:38 | Car 205, Lengacher / Stork has withdrawn from the event due to an ill codriver. The clutch was acting a little funny earlier, but they were already taking it easy due to the other problem. Maybe they will be able to continue tomorrow. Speaking of codrivers being ill....#93 were also being plagued by the same problem. Oh Conrad, your suit needs to be cleaned. I guess that's the chance you take when you loan it out to somebody! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:05 | Car 676, McElduff / Irwin is moving up through the field and are currently being listed in the 13th position. They had an interesting start to the morning, but after Special Stage 6, and a change of tires and suspension, the car is working great. They report the stages to be slippy, and would like more grip, but otherwise are enjoying the event. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:06 | Car 203, Heredos / West were kind enough to drop off another update form from the "SLICK!" stages. They tell us: "Bark Shanty (Special Stage 7) spectators got to see a lot of car 203 until Goodwin pulled us out of the ditch. Thanks to Mike and Debbie!" The car didn't appear to have any damage and they were excited to continue on. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:10 | We encourage people to continue to check out the streaming video from Car 46, Johnson / Robinson Nakamoto in car video. They are updating and adding new video frequently. The video is available at http://southwestonline.sitestream.com/CarolinaRS.vsml. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:11 | Car 227, Nelson / Allen are having a really good run, in fact they caught the car ahead of them on Special Stage 9. They tell us the car is absolutly reliable, it's the one thing they don't have to worry about while Derik gets used to driving it and gets faster. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:14 | Car 60, Davis / Brandt reports that the car is behaving well and although they would like more traction with their 2 wheel drive Dodge SRT4, they are currently leading Group 5. Jimmy would like to thank all the people watching in Michigan, and is wondering how the snow is!!! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:19 | Car 215, Thomas / Gauger spun at the flying finish of Special Stage 8 on the roads they described as loose. They passed Car 323, Verdier / Walker who was off on the stage (and OK) and described their position as "their rear was pointing to the North Star." The team coninues to push hard and is having a good time on the great roads. An update on Car 323, Verdier / Walker: The team was pulled out of the stage and drove it back to service. They did load the car on the trailer and head back to town before we were able to get the entire story. It is still possible that they will contiue tomorrow. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:21 | Car 292, Bottles / Grahn is having an awesome time. This is the first time that Derek has run on notes and is cautiously optimistic that they seem to be "easier". They are currently the fastest 2 wheel drive car in both the national and regional events. They are also leading Group 2. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:24 | Stage times are in for the first 10 stages, and the top five are as follows: Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni 51:34.3 Car 1, Richard / Richard 52:00.0 Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom 52:08.4 Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge 52:32.2 Car 99, Iorio / Holter 53:14.7 |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:28 | Car 866, Penasack / McLelland reports the stages to be slippery but fun. The car is running great and all is well. Rob would like to say hi to his wife, Alex, and Tim would like to say hi (and hope you feel better) to his wife, Danielle. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:29 | Car 153, Langbein / Wimpey had no boost on Special Stage 9, they hope to fix the issue at the service break. The driver had a little problem with dislexia when he made a right when he was told to go left at a T, but have had a good time none the less. They describe the roads as awesome, the best roads ever. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:30 | Car 1, Richard / Richard is being reported as stopped on Special Stage 11 at the spectator area. The OK sign is out and no further details are available at this time. We will let you know the details as they become available. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:45 | Car 245, Wright / Kean had a map sensor problem and electrical issues yesterday, but was able to fix both problems last night. They are now having a smoke problem issue with the wiper motor, but are reporting that overall, their day is going well. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:46 | The crew of Car 1, Richard / Richard is packing up, and are reporting that Pat and Nathalie are done for the day due to gearbox issues. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 17:51 | Car 275, Stow / Woltman is having a fantastic day and are detailing the stages as slippy, but good. With stages that are slippy, the team is adjusting by slowing down early and planning ahead, and it seems to be working as 9th overall and 2nd in Group 2 in the Oregon or Bust Rally. They would like to thank Caution Motorsports and their crew (especially Dad!). |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:03 | Car 298, Thomson / Blackburn tell us that the roads are very slick, and the car doesn't quite handle like it did before they rolled it. The cut up rain jacket that is being used as the rear windows of the car is holding up well. The team is pressing on and look forward to finishing today. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:10 | Car 232, Tabor / Poirier are using the R-3 head neck restraint system in only its second rally use ever. They say they have good mobility and are very comfortable wearing the device. The team is down on power due to a broken exhaust suffered on Special Stage 6. They have fixed it as well as they can here in service and will hopefully be able to fix it completely tonight. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:20 | It has been reported that Car 60, Davis / Brandt is off and OK before the spectator area on Special Stage 11. We have also heard that the problem with Car 1, Richard / Richard is a broken gearbox. The crew has left to go and get them out of the stage. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:22 | Car 600, McCarthy / Collins is trying to pick up the pace a little due to the time they lost last night. Last night, they were having fun, but are concentrating today. They like the stages today and are 18th overall. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:26 | Car 558, Cox / Sardelich is having a good time and they feel the truck is fast, and is sticking to the road well! They think the stages are challenging, but detail them as "great roads". The team had a fuel pump issue last night, but has replaced it with a higher pressure fuel pump and it seems fine. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:31 | Car 49, Thompson / Marr is doing good, but is having to relearn left foot braking (because he has been driving an all wheel drive and has gone to 2 wheel drive). The team has had 2 more spins today and lost their brakes on Special Stage 9 (mostly downhill stage), and is currently listed in 27th in the Oregon Trail National Rally. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 18:34 | After having troubles last night and having to replace the head gasket last night (and until 4:30 this morning), Car 30, Plsek / Burmeister troubles continued today. Early in the day today, the team realized they had a cracked water pump pulley, and sheared all their belts (to include the alternator belt), and subsequently, the battery went dead, and the team is now being listed as a DNF. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 19:16 | Car 438, Bartosek / Flagg's off on Special Stage 7 only resulted in a bent control arm. They plan on changing the control arm and starting tomorrows Regional rally. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 19:32 | Car 429, Foust / Crouch has backed off since their PGT competition Car 323, Verdier / Walker DNF'd on Special Stage 9. They may have backed off too much since they believe Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison is closing in on them. The team really hopes that they don't have to go too hard to stay in front since their tires are getting pretty bad. Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison, are planning on just running their own race and see where they end up. Their underbody protection was dragging on Special Stage 13, Norm said they were just being kind and grading the road for the rest of the field. Keith would just be happy if Norm would quit trying to juggle the video camera remote while he's driving down the stages. The team would like to send out a special thanks to everyone out in the rain working hard to keep them safe today! |

| Sat 23-Apr-05 19:38 | Car 947, Bacon / Watt's running much better now that the linkage problem has been fixed. They are trying to make up some time, but "it's not as easy as it looks" according to Peter. They like the twisty roads here, which are much twistier than those at home back East. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 19:44 | The Rally America truck will be packing up to catch up with the cars at the final MTC of the night. We will be off the air for at least three hours while we transit to the MTC, wait for time cards, and then transit back to Hilsboro. | Sat 23-Apr-05 21:07 | Car 866, Penasack / McLelland also felt the roads were getting pretty slippery, but the car is running really well. They would like to thank the crew at Bacon Motorsports: Bill, Chris, John, Nick, Peter, and Megan are great. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 21:10 | Things are going a lot better for Car 245, Wright / Kean. They are getting faster and more consistant, and new tires help. Dave said "There's nothing actively smoking in the cockpit currently, so that's good!" |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 21:13 | Car 558, Cox / Sardelich had used tires to start with, that are now well used, and quickly approaching used up. Aside from tires, the truck is running like a champ and they have had no real worries today. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 21:18 | Car 49, Thompson / Marr tell us that they are now in "R&D mode" since they feel they cant catch Car 232, Tabor / Poirier without them having a problem. Sans said they have too much rear something and the car keeps wanting to go around too easy. The plan is to make big changes tonight...it will either help or it won't! Sans and Craig seem to be having a good time in the car. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:23 | Car 14, BeberVanzo / Chizma is having a wonderful, but cautious and controlled run today. They are loving their new Evo 8. Amy and Claire have combined rally experience of more than 30 years, and yet, they are learning a lot from the car, they detailed the car as "giving them what was missing". The team is feeling lucky to have such a great car and would like to thank Tech Sport and San Rafael Mitsubishi for their support. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:24 | Car 774, Dimiters / Monin is busy working on getting their rhythm today and feel thankful they have not hit anything or slid off the road, as so many teams have today. It is their goal to finish. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:29 | Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski picked up some time this afternoon after they changed to a harder compound tire and softened the suspension. After the changes, the car turns in better and everything is going well. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:30 | Car 99, Iorio / Holter is having a bit of difficulty as Ole has a sore throat and is quite hoarse. The team is "flying" as they describe it, they love the roads, the car is incredible! The team is currently in 4th position. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:32 | Car 233, Eklund / Price was having a rough day earlier, at least until they found the power for the center diff!! The driver is quite happy now! They would like to thank Subaru for helping them out with finding the power for the center diff! |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:35 | Car 288, Cavett / Dillon was passed on Special Stage 11 by Car 947, Bacon / Watt and continued to lose time on Special Stage 12; however, when they got to tight and twisty Special Stage 13 they beat their own time. The team is working on their rhythm and the car is running well. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:38 | After Special Stage 9, Car 26, Kendall / Friberg changed to a softer compound tire, and despite the fact that the stages are still slippery, the change made a big difference. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:44 | Car 215, Thomas / Gauger reported that they lost time on Special Stage 12 because Car 207, Hintz / Hintz had what they believe was a turbo issue, and were unable to get by because of the narrow road. They also had a "moment" where they hung the back end out and almost spun the car. Despite their issues, they are having fun. Jamie and Matt would like to thank PDXtuning.com and their "amazing" crew (who they detail as having the highest IQ of any crew) for their support. They would also like to wish everyone a Happy Passover. |
| Sat 23-Apr-05 22:46 | Car 227, Nelson / Allen is still having a mapping issue that the team is trying to tweak, and it does seem to be getting better. Despite that, they detail the car as "dead reliable". This is the first time for Derek on numeric notes, and they are working well for the team. |

| Sun 24-Apr-05 09:35 | Car 231, Smith / Zurschmeide, sponsored by Tabor Rally Team and Silverstone, had a great day of rallying saturday. The wet conditions favored their lower hp Geo Metro. Jeff tells us April is a naturally talented driver and the Tabor Rally Team is set for victory on the great roads . |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 09:36 | Car 678, Swingler / Bailet had a long day on Satuday due to the fog that had settled in and compounded by an exhast issue. The team's goal is to finish without breaking anything as they have to drive the car back to Vancouver!!! |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 09:42 | Car 348, Pierce / Sehmi will not be running today due to a gearbox and clutch problem suffered yesterday. Jim told us "it was fun while it lasted!" |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 09:49 | Car 203, Heredos / West was just trying to get through the day on Saturday, taking the "slick and scary" roads in stride. They finished the Oregon or Bust Rally in 27th position. It is their goal to push a little faster today in the Trail's End Rally. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:00 | Car 60, Davis / Brandt, who DNF'd on Special Stage 11, dropped off an update for us. Jimmy told us "The car was driving really squirrely (no, not the driver). We thought it was a front flat. With 10 miles to go we figured there was no way to make it to the finish. We pulled over to change it, got the nut gun out, and all 4 tires were fine...HMMM. We then tried driving whilst the codriver observed - one wheel drive! Either a broken diff or right halfshaft, either way we could not get up the hill. We thought about backing up hill, then thought better of it. Hence - DNF. Press on." |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:18 | Car 232, Tabor / Poirier is having a good time, and things are going ok. They were experiencing a muffler problem, the problem was that it was in service (they lost it!). The team would like to thank the family, who are all working the event, they would also like to thank Safe Drive for the head and neck restraint system. When asked about whether it limits range of motion, Mark stated that it does, but given the pros of the system, it is worth it. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:21 | Car 649, Crane / Keith was having fun yesterday in the Oregon or Bust Rally and just hanging in, trying to finish without breaking much. They succeeded and finished in 19th overall and 2nd in class. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:40 | Car 390, Boles / Hickey is looking really good! The car is a bright orange, and not easy to miss! The team has been working on the car for months, but had a marathon 4 days before the event, trying to get the finishing touches on. They are having fun and trying not to crash! The team finished the Oregon of Bust Rally in 20th overall and 3rd in PGT. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:43 | Car 473, Wolfe / Langford was having a subframe issue coming in from Special Stage 13, and felt they were losing time as a result. Despite that, they are very happy with car (which they built themselves) and know that when the car is on, it is a great car. Earlier in the day, when the car was on, they were gaining on the next G2 car in front of them! They finished the day in the regional event in 24th overall. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 10:48 | Car 218, Rea / Perry lost their brakes on Special Stage 11, they believe that they hit a rock and damaged a fitting. The brakes did not get any better through Special Stage 12 or Special Stage 13 and when they came into service, they had very little brake fluid left. It was their goal to fix the problem in service and continue on. They did so, and finished the regional event in 11th overall. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 11:06 | Car 207, Hintz / Hintz reported that they had made it up to 12th in the national rally yesterday before brake problems ended their day. They are back competing in the Regional rally today. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 11:16 | Oregon or Bust was the first rally for Car 231, Smith / Zurschmeide. They were having fun and looking to finish. They had a good strategy going, knowing that they could not win early on, but could lose it! They accomplished their goal, and finished 29th overall. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 11:20 | Car 348, Pierce / Sehmi had an interesting day yesterday as they had only 1st and 3rd gear, and had no clutch. They have spent most of the day fighting this problem, but were still going strong when they cam in from Special Stage 13. They were able to finish the event, and did so in 28th position. The team would like to thank alltimeracing.com, Kendall Oil, and Procomp tires. Jim would like to say hi to Michelle and James. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 11:22 | Car 459, Harris / May was having a very good day in yesterday's Oregon or Bust Rally. It was the driver's first rally, and the conditions were slippery and mushy. They intended to use this rally as good practice, and wanted to finish and they did just that, and finished 30th. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 12:34 | The cars have started coming in for the first service of the day. The unofficial times for the top 5 are as follows: Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni 1:51:35.8 Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom 1:52:38.7 Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge 1:53:51.7 Car 99, Iorio / Holter 1:56:15.0 Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski 1:57:22.6 |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 12:58 | Car 233, Eklund / Price 's Primitive Racing 2004 Subaru STi are having a good run on the moist smooth stages. They were a little late on some critical corners so their times did suffer. The Silverstone S1 (soft compound) were the proper choice for those stages. The team is sponsored by Royal Moore Subaru and Silverstone Tyres. More info on the team can be found at www.get-primitive.com. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:02 | Car 232, Tabor / Poirier had a good Special Stage 16 until the finish when a belt came loose in the steering. The finish was a "little hairy", but they were able to make it to service. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:03 | Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom is "good, very good", says Travis. He goes on to state that they are having fun, and despite "messing up" at the end of Special Stage 16, they continue to maintain their 2nd place position. They lost 16 seconds on Special Stage 15, and 6 seconds on Special Stage 16 to Stig, but it was their morning goal to measure themselves against Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni and Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge. As long as they are not losing much time to Carl, their goal will be to drive to finish if they are, they may need to step it up just a little. The team would like to thank Subaru, Red Bull, Michelin, and Vermont SportsCar for all their support. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:12 | Car 99, Iorio / Holter described the car as "way fast", smooth, and consistent. Ole still has a sore throat and is having to turn the intercom up and talk real soft to keep what he has left of his voice. The team states the stages are phenomenal, very technical, and that they love the Oregon gravel (which tends to be very loose). Despite the loose gravel, Matt says that he is getting really good traction once they blow of the loose stuff on top. The only issues they had on these last two stages was a few missed shifts on Special Stage 16, and otherwise, had no moments. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:14 | Car 452, Foster / Rounds dropped off an update at the last service. from Special Stage 16 "Oops...we did it again - tripped on a R3 and went into a ditch! Actually, backed into it trying to turn around. A well spent $100 got us a tow out from Car 436, Ullevig / Bolton. We were back on the road long enogh to get passed by the orange Subie wagon and watch it roll right in front of us. All are OK - we're back into the rally and only halfway into our MPL." The teams G5 1974 Mazda RX3's sponsors include Fling Pu Racing, BSI Racing, Primitive Racing, Shurtz Marine, Cabaret, and Blaze. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:16 | Car 103, Gubelman / Krolikowski is doing ok. They missed a Right 1 on Special Stage 15 (as several others did also). Additionally, they lost time because their intercom also went out on Special Stage 15. Special Stage 16 went well. Their goal for today is to finish up the rally, drive conservatively, and generally, just maintain their position. Cindy would like to say hi to Russ and Ami, Julie and Bovy, John and David, Buddy and Sweety. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:29 | Cars line wait to enter the regroup control. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:31 | Car 947, Bacon / Watt report that the roads are fun but marbley, it's like driving on softballs. They did have a small problem with a hairpin they "blew by a mile" on Special Stage 15. They did lose some time considering they had to back up to continue, and by the tracks on the road, they weren't the only ones to have a problem there. They let us know that Car 43, Block / Gelsomino was off and OK about 50 meters prior to the flying finish of Special Stage 16. They thought they looked to be high centered. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:32 | Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge had a flat on Special Stage 16, they believe they are too far behind Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom to make it up. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:39 | The codriver in Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison tells us that the driver is not listening fast enough when they are on the stages. They had a chance to experience an exposure today, they just slid a little wide so there was no real drama. They feel they are on pace with yesterdays performance and love the roads. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:49 | Car 676, McElduff / Irwin stated that Special Stage 16 went well for them. They said there were a few corners that were cool, close, and exciting. The sheer dropoffs provided for even more drama. They like the fact that there is a lot more grip and speed today. It is their goal to keep it tight and pick up some speed through the rest of the event. They haved moved up from 21st to 13th throughout the weekend. The only problem the team is having currently is that they are losing power somewhere, they are hoping to be able to diagnose and fix the problem while they are in service. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:50 | Car 429, Foust / Crouch drove out a flat they suffered on Special Stage 16. They figure they lost at least 20 seconds on the last 4 miles of the stage. Tanner said they really underestimated what the tire wear would be like here. They only came to the event with five gravel tires, so with the previous flat they are now without a spare. They were looking for some tires to buy from somebody at service so the could at least have new fronts. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:52 | Car 616, LeBlanc / Morison are very excited to have "grabbed" another 20 secods off of Tanner Foust. It is their goal to stay ahead of Tanner and to stay at a comfortable pace. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:53 | Car 674 withdrew from the event after Special Stage 15, apparently with a linkage problem |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 13:58 | Car 215, Thomas / Gauger are going good while trying to learn the car on the twisty roads. Jamie feels that as soon as she figures out the car they will be really fast. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:06 | Car 288, Cavett / Dillon spun after the finish of Special Stage 16. They loosend the bumper, lost a mud flap, and will need to get the dirt out of the beads on the rear tires. Other than that, John states that Gary is driving well, but currently is unsure how their times compare. The team's in car camera was not working yesterday, and the team got it going today...they joked that was the good news...the bad news is they got their spin on tape! |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:11 | Car 538 is still on the used up tires from yesterday. Today feels a lot busier in the notes, but all is good. It's Jim's first time at this rally (actually his first time in the state) and he is enjoying the beautiful roads and scenery. They did report seeing Car 26, Kendall / Friberg off down a stumpy embankment on Special Stage 16. Apparently, where they went off was a tricky spot with no treeline. Both Cary and Scott are OK |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:21 | Car 49, Thompson / Marr has renamed their car the Dodge Diabolic. They are still having issues finding the right balance. Sans said that it's not the cars fault, it's just not set up right. So, they are officially out of R&D mode and into survival mode since the R&D failed miserably. They think they have set a new record with eight spins on the stages this rally, and of course all were either in front of spectators or a camera crew. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:23 | Car 232, Tabor / Poirier loved Special Stage 17, in fact they would like to run that one two more times instead of the other two that are left to run! Car 232, Tabor / Poirier also liked Special Stage 17, they said "Nice stage, very flowing. There were smiles from all of the competitors." |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:28 | Car 43, Block / Gelsomino hit a bank with their right front tire on Special Stage 16. The car then pop up on 2 wheels for about a second, and landed on the ditch on all four tires. It all happened so fast, the team states. They lost about 10 minutes, and were happy to see the same Mitsubishi Galant that pulled them out yesterday. They want to thank Car 274, Rodzinski / Rodzinski for pulling them out twice this weekend. There is a fair amount of damage on the drivers side, but the team says "we are not giving up". |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:32 | The Rally America truck is heading back to town for the final MTC of the rally. We will be back on the air to give you the final results and stories as soon as we can. The first car is scheduled to arrive at 3:59, so make sure to check back. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 14:45 | An update on Car 49, Thompson / Marr. Thanks to a frantic call to Doug Shepherd, they tried one more thing on the set up of the Dodge. It made the car perfect! |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 15:58 | Car 26, Kendall / Friberg made it back to service after their off on Special Stage 16. The team went off just before a tripple caution when they overshot a right 4 into a left 3 with an exposure looking down 150 feet of mountain side. Cary almost made it back on the road when they hit a stump in the drivers door which sent them spinning down the side of the mountain. It took two trucks with winches to get them back to the road. They were able to drive back to service with no problem, the car still runs great. The team is sponsored by Carbon Art and Bullet Cams. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 16:11 | The cars are starting to come into the final MTC. Scores are not yet posted. We will keep you updated, so stay tuned! |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 16:21 | The unofficial top three overall are as follows: Car 65, Blomqvist / Goni Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom Car 39, Jardevall / Trowbridge |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 16:25 | Cars take the finish of Oregon Trail Rally 2005. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 16:36 | The Dave Clark Motor Sports supported team of Car 207, Hintz / Hintz said the roads were fun, with some tricky spots. They kept it clean and are hoping that they end up with a podium in todays Regional Rally. |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 17:13 | Car 774, Dimiters / Monin adjusted the suspension before the last 3 stages. They feel that they made the right adjustments, and only wish they had made them earlier! Both Otis and Peter would like to thank the NC Rally Crew for all their help this weekend. Otis would like to thank his Aunt Vivian, and Peter would like to thank Kevin Poirier's wife for feeding him yesterday!! |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 17:46 | Car 245, Wright / Kean had a great event and that today's roads were fabuluous. The team pushed hard, right now the team is being listed as 4th overall and 2nd in open class in the Trail End Rally. Dave states that Cary drove a great race, and they are both impressed with their times comparative to other open class cars, considering they are 100 HP down (engine is VERY stock!). They feel that today makes up for some of the bad luck they have had over the last 14 months (they have not had a finish in that long!). |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 17:49 | Car 947, Bacon / Watt found the roads to be fun and they felt that they set decent times. On the road, they were 3rd in open class, but incurred some road points due to a late checkout from service (due to a manifold gasket that blew out) and ended up 4th in open class. They had no boost, but were unable to fix it in service. Despite that, the car is in one piece, and the team is happy that they got to run all the roads (and finished). |
| Sun 24-Apr-05 17:53 | In a final update form from Car 233, Eklund / Price, the team stated that they "hoped to make a race with Cavett and Hintz, but slipped a turbo hose .25 from the end of Special Stage 18. Got a repair on it for Special Stage 19, but only held for 2.6 miles. Limped the stage out - 6.8 miles of good road is agony with no power!
