Rally America, Inc. is a Minneapolis, Minnesota-based corporation, created in 2002 by former rally driver and CPD Rally Team owner, Doug Havir and currently holds the sanctioning and marketing rights to the Rally America Championship.
Initially, Rally America’s purpose was to support the Sports Car Club of America’s (SCCA) ProRally Championship with timing and scoring efforts. At the conclusion of the 2004 season the SCCA transferred the commercial and sanctioning rights of ProRally and ClubRally to Rally America.
Utilizing the existing SCCA Performance Rally Rule Book along with a few changes, Rally America then created its own rally championship in 2005 - now known as the Rally America National Championship and various Rally America Regional Championships.
Today, Rally America is based in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Daily operations are managed by J.B. Niday, Rally America’s Managing Director, with Mike Hurst as Competition Director. Paul Giblin and Ananda Siverts handle the marketing and public relations duties. The rally events throughout the year are supported by hundreds of dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers.
Each year, Rally America sanctions a combination of regional and national level rally events attracting thousands of spectators and the best rally drivers, co-drivers and support teams in North America. Because of this, the Rally America National Championship is now considered by many to be the premier rally championship in North America. For 2011, the Rally America National Championship will consist of 6 events beginning January and ending in July, and will crisscross the country from Maine to Washington State. In addition, RallyCar sanctions 35 regional rally events throughout the year giving grassroots competitors plenty of racing options in locales close to home.
In the fall of 2010, Rally America made motorsports history introducing four European-style Rallycross events at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ known as the Rally America Rallycross Championship. This new line of business brought the best elements of rally to a tarmac and dirt course featuring wheel-to-wheel high-powered rally car action. Due the success of the first events Rally America will sanction a 2011 Rally America Rallycross Championship.
Rally America continues to be the sport organizer for ESPN’s X Games in sunny Los Angeles, CA since 2006. This internationally televised extreme sporting event reintroduced the sport of U.S. rallying to motorsports fans throughout the world. It continues to do so, combining some of the world’s best extreme athletes and rally drivers in a format like you’ve never seen before - it brings the sport up close and personal.
