- Friday, January 25, 2008
All of the cars have started from the Parc Expose in Lewiston, MI. It sounded
like Car 52, Shepherd / Wagner, would not make it through SS1; they were
reported off the road on the stage. Since that initial report, Shepherd and
Wagner have finished the stage and it sounds like they will be continuing.

Zedrils take Production Win in Event and in Championship
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Car 708 Zedril/Zedril were only 1 point behind in the Production Championship
points; Car 572 Robinson/Nielsen was the leader. “We pushed all day yesterday
and found ourselves leading (over Robinson); today we were just trying to
maintain that lead” stated co-driver Jody Zedril. “We had a minor off
yesterday, but the car is handled so well throughout – it just went where it was
pointed.” The team’s efforts lead them to be the 2007 Rally American Production
Championship.
It really was a Cinderella season for the Zedril’s as they started the season
with the view that this would be a learning year and are pleasantly surprised
that it turned into a championship run. “Without question, we cannot thank
Rally America for making this possible for us” Zedril went on to say.
The team would like to thank their crew, Mom and Dad – “nothing is more
important than family and we want them to know we appreciate all their help and
support”. The Zedril’s would also like to thank their sponsors: Image Plus,
Sturgeon Tire, Napa Canada, and the Battery Man.

Shepherd wins G5 and Max Attack!
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
"It's great to be back" said Shepherd; who, aside from X Games 2006, has been
absent from rally since STPR 2006. Shepherd took some time off from rallying to
spend time with family, but he plans to run four or five events in 2008. "I was
able to be here because Don Jankowski towed his car here from California. I got
to run the car here, and Don will be running it at Sno Drift" said Doug. "I'll
be back, I really think that two wheel drive is really my calling. I look
forward to helping and being able to coach the young teams coming up in the
sport." So look for Shepherd to be making a comeback and to be helping the
"youth" in two wheel drive. Shepherd not only won Group 5 in the National
rally, he was the Max Attack! winner.
Krolikowski's take both regionals
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Car 44 Krolikowski/Krolikowski, were able to top the podium in both the Ottawa
and Keweenaw Regional events held in conjunction with LSPR. This was Cindy's
24th consecutive LSPR, she has completed 20 of the 24. This weekend was about
having fun for the Krowikowski's, and they certainly had fun. They really enjoy
Brockway (SS12), "the Subaru jumps like a charm, and it lands even better; not
like the Dodge Shadow that we used to run" said Cindy. They are also happy to
be celebrating with the host of family and friends that joined them this
weekend.
Foust takes second
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Although not in the Championship hunt, #34, battled for the lead all day. They
lead #199, in the last set of stages, but were unable to hold on for the win.
The team would have liked to get their first win of the season, but they were
happy about how well they preformed against the factory team this season.
Pinker third at LSPR
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
The Rockstar Subaru team of #5, takes second in the Rally America National
Championship as well as third in the rally. "We will be ready for next season,
having never run the last five rallys of the Championship was a disadvantage"
said Durant. "Our season started off great, but our lack of experience at the
final events really hurt us." said Pinker. Although disappointed with their
finish today, the team looks forward to challenging the factory Subaru team in
2008.

Bartram has the best finish ever
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Finishing fifth overall was Car 690, Bartram / Hotson. "We found a new level of
speed this weekend" said Bartram. "Stage two was a turning point, we finished
that stage and I was shaking." They then laughed about how fast they felt, yet
how far off the pace of the leaders they actually were. The team's plans for
2008 are still uncertain, but they hope to running the Championship series in an
Open class car.

- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Car 46, Johnson / Wimpey, have won LSPR! Taking first place was the teams only
chance to clench the PGT Championship, they were able to accomplish both this
weekend. "This is awesome" smiled Johnson, "we couldn't have done it without the
help of our fellow PGT competitors. Anytime we've had trouble this season, Pat
(Moro) and Stephan (Verdier) have been there to help us out; they've been
awesome to compete with." Johnson was also last years PGT National Champion.
811 out on 16
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
It has been reported that Car 811, Sozanski / Woods, has rolled on SS16. The
team is OK, but the stage was stopped; the rest of the cars have transited the
stage.
Pastrana wins
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom, is the first car to arrive at the finish and it
looks like they have taken the win. His "play it safe" philosophy appears to
have worked and he will take home the LSPR win and the Rally America National
Championship.
LSPR is decided
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
After an extended service in Copper Harbor, MI, the teams went out to run 3
stages. At that point, it was still anyone's rally - Foust/Beavis were leading
by only 7 seconds over Pastrana/Edstrom going into the last stages; it had
dwindled to 3 seconds before the last stage. Unfortunately, the Rockstar team's
win was not to be.

Car 646, Zenz / Parps, reported "terminal noises in the differential" and have

Moro lends Johnson spare gearbox
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
After losing third gear last night, Car 46, Johnson / Wimpey borrowed the spare
gearbox of Car 59, Moro / Rossey, who retired after SS2 when they ended up in a
swamp. The team worked through the night and were ready to go this morning. "It
feels a little bit sticky and reverse is a little sketchy, but it'll be fine"
said Johnson at the start. The team is in fifth overall and first in PGT; they
are in good position to repeat as the Rally America PGT National Champions.
"Cowboy" Kenny Bartram in sixth
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
After a clean run yesterday, Car 690, Bartram / Hotson, moved into fifth place
at the finish of day one. The team lost time this morning with a couple of spins
on stage, but only lost one overall position. They are currently in sixth
position, about 38 seconds behind fifth place.
Retirements
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
It has been reported that Car 20, Comrie-Picard / Goldfarb, has retired with
mechanical problems. After spending the night working on the car, they made an
attempt to finish, but chose to call it a day after only one stage. With the
Tall Pines rally only three weeks away, the team could not afford to do any more
damage to the car.
It has also been reported that Car 429, Verdier / Crouch, has retired on SS9
with mechanical issues. The team is OK, but their rally is over.
Gearbox change for Pastrana
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
The crew of Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom, are feverishly working to change the
gearbox in the 30 minute service. It was unknown exactly what the problem was
when they arrived to service, so the decision was made to change the
transmission. "We just can't take any chances" said Clint Fast, Subaru of
America team logistics coordinator. Pastrana now sits seven seconds back from
the lead, but is ahead of third place, Car 5, Pinker / Durant, by over 50
seconds.
The cars just arrived to the first service of the day.
- Saturday, October 27, 2007
Car 34, Foust / Beavis, has taken the lead over Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom, who
are reportedly having clutch problems. The teams will have about 30 minutes of
service time before they make the first of two runs of Brockway Mountain, the
one pavement stage of the rally.
End of day one
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After eight stages, Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom, still leads the rally. They are
followed by Car 34, Foust / Beavis and Car 5, Pinker / Durant respectively. Less
than 30 seconds separate the top three; with eight stages remaining, anything
can happen.
The rally will resume in the town of Calumet with a Parc Expose at 9:30 am.
They will leave for the first of the eight final stages at 10:30. All three
service breaks will be held in Copper Harbor, the first is scheduled for around
1:00pm. Check back for all the latest news, scores, and updates on the Rally
America Championship standings.
The rally is over for #527
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Car 527, Liubakka / Walli, went off of SS6 hitting a tree. The team is OK, but
the car is beyond repair; they have retired from the rally and won't be able to
start the Keweenaw Regional tomorrow. The driver and codriver were supposed to
switch seats tomorrow; I guess we know who will drive the first half of the next
rally the run together.
687 out
- Friday, October 26, 2007
It has been reported that Car 687, Eixenberger / Luikart, is off on SS6 with a
broken driveshaft. They are OK and have requested that their crew come and get
them.
Looking for a new gearbox!
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Car 46, Johnson / Wimpey, are looking for a replacement gearbox after losing
third gear on SS5. They are still pushing as hard as they can, but have lost
some time. The team hopes to find Car 59, Moro / Rossey, and borrow their spare
gearbox and some manpower to make the swap overnight. The team is currently
leading the PGT class and is fifth overall.
614 moved into fourth
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After seven stages, Car 614, Wiktorczyk / Brady has climbed into fourth place.
The team has had some lucky breaks, but have driven an excellent rally, putting
them in sight of the podium. Their goal is to keep up the pace and finish the
rally strong.
Turbo trouble for ACP
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Turbo trouble has dropped car 20, Andrew Comrie-Picard and Marc Goldfarb, well
out of the hunt for a podium finish. After the team lost boost early in the
evening, the team's crew managed a turbo swap in a 10 minute service, but the
car returned at the next break with more trouble under the hood and it's not
clear whether they'll be able to finish the night.

TEAM REPORTS
#507, Micah says Echo Lake was ridiculous and he can't believe we made it
through. The team had to stop on SS2 Herman, when Micah's hand hit the cam
release and his seat belts came undone.
#478, Lost their supercharger belt again. The crew removed the 10psi pulley and
changed it to 6psi. This team also had a rough time on Echo Lake. Their car nose
dived into a large hole, and the light pod is still somewhere out there. Daniel
Victor would like to say hi to his son Davis following the race at home.
Car 26 Kendall/Friberg, are leaving for the last stage on new tires. Kendall
states that they aren't taking any big chances and is hoping to regain the top
spot.
Car 52 Shepard/Wagner broke a shock during the first leg, changed it at service
and haven't had any other issues. The team expects to get faster with every
stage.
Car 83 Utecht/Bohn, says Echo Lake was the worst stage he has ever run. The
stage developed large ruts and bumps spaced 10 feet apart that kept the car
bouncing for 2.5 miles.
Car 70 Duplessis/Headland rolled three times late in the evening. They are
fine, but their rally is over.
515 retires
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Car 515, Boullion / Boullion has called it a rally after suffering a broken
shift fork. "We have first gear, and first gear, and then first gear" laughed
Boullion. They considered trying to continue, but figured that there was no way
they would make the transit back to Houghton.
Verdier loses a lot of time
- Friday, October 26, 2007
On SS4, Car 429, Verdier / Crouch, lost time when they went off the road and hit
a tree; the car stalled and the battery died, but they were able to continue.
After seven stages the team is at the back of the pack, but they are continuing
to press on in true LSPR fashion.
Update from #708
- Friday, October 26, 2007
"After a heartbreaking series of misfortunes at last weekends Canadian National,
the Pacific Forest Rally in Merritt, B.C., the brothers are back in stride and
gunning for the National Championship crown here in the U.S. We are a mere one
point away from rival James Robinson going into this final round, and have
nothing to loose at this point. We're pushing for the win pure and simple; we
owe our seasons success to partners Image Plus, Napa, Sturgeon Tire, and The
Battery Man. What happened last weekend? In a nutshell, we got stuck on a
mountain during recce when another competitor pushed them off the road in a
snowstorm. As a result, we were not able to extract the car in time for the
Friday stages; we went on to roll the car on Saturday. Needless to say, we are
here now, ready to make up for last weekend. Practice/testing went well
yesterday, and we're ready to put up the good fight." After four stages, Car
708, Zedril / Zedril, are leading Production class in the National rally.
Block out
- Friday, October 26, 2007
It has been reported that Car 43, Block / Gelsomino is pulled off on the side of
the road five miles into SS5. The team is OK, but it appears that their rally,
and Championship hopes, are over.
Update from car 319
- Friday, October 26, 2007
"We suffered a trailer bearing failure while towing yesterday. Fortunately, we
were only a few miles from a Tractor Supply Co. and we were able to replace it
in about an hour. We think that we have all our drama behind us and we expect a
strong run today." After four stages, the team is second in Group 2 in the
Ottawa Regional Rally.
669 withdrawn
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After SS4, Car 669, Cline / Grahn, have withdrawn from the rally, they "have no
more oil pan".
Block
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After going wide on a corner in SS4, Car 43, Block / Gelsomino, noticed the
smell of coolant and started to overheat. They turned off the anti-lag and were
able to continue, only losing about 20 seconds. Once back in service, the crew
changed the radiator (and pulled out a number of branches) and checked out the
car as best they could in the 30 minutes allowed for service. "We need to keep
going fast and hope that our luck turns" said Block.
Max Attack update
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Burress- The team is wishing they would have run notes. They've found the tulips
to be incomplete.
They had a loose ball joint for the first 4 stages, the part was replaced at
service. Tom and Don would like to thank their sponsers Fine Tuning, Bow Wow,
Meister gauge faces, and Product Apparel.
Duplessis- This is the first time at LSPR for Chris. The team is comfortable
with their current position and love to race in the sloppy wet conditions. They
would like to thank everyone at O'Neils Rally School and Go Fast! energy drink.
Timo is in attendance, and Chris is hoping to put on a good show.
Pinker in third
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Sitting in third place is current Championship points leader Car 5, Pinker /
Durant. This is Pinker's first trip to the Lake Superior Performance Rally, so
they may be at a slight disadvantage; from their scores you'ld think they were
veterans of this rally. The team is only 25 seconds back from the lead, and with
12 more stages to run, anything is possible.
Foust in second
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Car 34, Foust / Beavis, is anxious to get to the top of the podium. Foust won
the X Games Gold medal and the Formula D Championship this year, but a Rally
America overall win has eluded him. "I'm here to support my teammates, Car 5,
Pinker / Durant, but I'm also here to play" said Foust, "the higher I finish
against the Vermont Sportscar cars the better for Andy (Pinker)." Currently the
34 team is in second place, five seconds back from Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom.
Pastrana takes the lead
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After four stages, Car 199, Pastrana / Edstrom, has taken the lead by nearly
five seconds. "We've been smooth and steady so far" said Pastrana. With the
tight competition, they need to keep up the pace and avoid problems to ensure a
repeat of their 2006 National Championship.

Another flat for Block
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Car 43, Block / Gelsomino suffered yet another flat tire, this time the right
front tire, on SS2. They lost some time, but there's a lot of rally left to run.
From co-driver reported stage times, Block sits in fourth.
Moro off and more problems for Sarasin
- Friday, October 26, 2007
It was reported that Car 59, Moro / Rossey, have gone off on SS2. The team is
OK, but they may be a little wet; they are off the road and stuck in a pond. Car
55, Sarasin / Johansson, almost joined them. They went off in the same location,
but were able to drive out of it and continue. Photo by Greg Drozd.
Trouble for Sarasin on stage 1
- Friday, October 26, 2007
#55 is changing a drive shaft at the short service after stage one; #83, towed
them from the stage. It is unclear how much time he lost on the stage, or with
the repairs.
Foust leads after one stage.
- Friday, October 26, 2007
After one short stage Foust leads the field. He is followed by Pastrana, while
Block and Pinker tied on the stage. Block punctured a left front tire right out
of the gate, "I couldn't turn right very well, but we did OK" said Block. The
teams will head out to run three more stages before we see them for sevice in
Kenton at about 6:30.
World Champion to be missed
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Scotland’s Colin McRae was undoubtedly one of the best rally drivers of all
time. He was the World Rally Champion only once, in 1995, but was runner up
several times and was instrumental in Manufacturers Championships for Subaru in
1995, 1996, and 1997, and for Citroen in 2003. McRae also drove for the Ford
WRC team from 1999 thru 2002. He tallied 25 WRC victories from 1993 to 2002.
The son of former British Rally Driving Champion Jimmy McRae, Colin began his
rally driving career aboard a Sunbeam Talbot in 1986. His younger brother,
Allister is also a rally driver and former British Rally Champion.
In the US, McRae was best known as the face on a series of realistic rally
computer games. He was also one of the competitors in the ESPN X Games in 2006
and 2007. McRae and co-driver Nicky Grist captured second place to Travis
Pastrana in the 2006 X-Games following a spectacular rollover and recovery near
the end of his run. Another rollover ended McRae’s run in the semi-finals of
this past summer’s X Games.
McRae died when the Twin Squirrel helicopter he was piloting suffered a
mechanical failure while landing near McRae’s home in Lanark, Scotland. The
helicopter crash also took the lives of his 5-year old son Johnny, Johnny’s
Friend Ben Porcelli, and family friend Graeme Duncan.
“It was an honor to call him my friend, and I will never forget how it felt to
be in his presence,” said Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block, McRae’s X
Games teammate on the Vermont SportsCar Rally Team “He was the biggest
inspiration in rally for me and always will be.”
Local hero to be missed by all
- Friday, October 26, 2007
Jake Himes grew up in Marquette, MI and graduated from MTU, so it was no
surprise that he loved to drive fast in the woods. While a student at MTU, he
was part of the Thursday Night Club that would head out to the loggings roads
around Houghton late Thursday nights. He also acquired a reputation as LSPR's
"naked rally fan" during his years at MTU.
Jake's degree was in Forest, so his working life was also spent in the forests
of norther Minnesota and Wisconsin. After a stint in the corporate world, he
founded the Family Forests Company.
He began rallying as a co-driver for Eric Seppanan in a Nissan Sentra. His
first attempts as a rally driver in the Sentra were mixed, with moments of
mastery behind the wheel punctuated by occasional off road incidents.
Experience showed him to be a talented driver, capable of running with the big
dogs in lesser equipment. In 2005, he acquired a Mazda RX-7 that races its
lineage back to a car built and rallied by Carl Keiranen in the 1980's. The few
times he rallied the powerful Mazda in recent years, he was always a crowd
favorite.
Jake's brothers, Silas and Matt, also became involved in the sport, with Silas
often having to repair the damage inflicted by Jake on the rally car after each
event.
An enthusiastic supporter of two-wheel driver rallying, Jake started Group F,
and just this past year, the Max Attack Triple Crown Rally Series. He organized
the series and was on hand for the first two events at Oregon Trail and Rally
West Virginia, the latter only weeks before cancer ended his life.

Danielle, and four young children; Lydia, twins Miles and Avery, and Mia. He
will be missed by his many friends in the rally community.

- Friday, October 26, 2007
16 Cars are registered and ready to run!
#52 Shepard/Wagner are here in their new car. Doug hasn't run in over a year,
and is expecting a slow lead in. Friday stages are his favorite and hopes to
survive Saturday's stages.
#93 Olson/Ketelson are absent at parc expose, and reports are that there is a
problem with the transmission.
#26 Kendall/Friberg are here to win. There is no other option for them.
#55 Sarasin/Johansson don't need to win here to secure first place. Look for
them to run a steady and easy race according to their crew.
#535 Utecht/Bohn had no issues to report other than a malfunctioning odometer.
#437 Burress/Burress made the long tow from Washington to run here. The car is
ready to go and they are looking forward to a great 2WD battle.

the first time.
#42 Burmeister/Shindle are looking forward to Max Attackin! Eric reports that
his gauges aren't working and he'll stop when he sees smoke.

says that he's running on the same wheels/tires that he crashed on here two
years ago and that it was all Silas's fault.

hoping to secure a 3rd in Group 5 national finish.

for Nieson.

repaired and running today. Zach is hoping not to break any axles on his SRT-4
and in a perfect world, he would finish today.
#507 Wiitala/Takkunen are out in the Saturn. Nobody knows how to abuse their car
like these guys.
#708 Zedril/Zedril are out after a heartbreaking weekend in the Canadien Series
that left them stuck in a snowbank DNS on day one and a roll the next. They'll
be chasing down rival James Robinson, who leads the production class overall by
1 point. They are here with backing from Image Plus, NAPA, Sturgeon Tire, and
the Battery Man.
