Sno*Drift Rally Photo Contest Winners!

Tuesday, March  3, 2009
The Sno*Drift Rally always provides a beautiful backdrop for photographers to take amazing pictures of rally cars speeding through snow and occasionally blowing up a snow bank. This year, a number of fans participated in the Sno*Drift photo contest and captured a great set of photographs highlighting the best of the rally.

A judging panel took the top rated pictures voted by rally fans, and selected the best three from the grouping. Thank you to all who participated in the contest and thank you to Subiesport magazine, Drivingsports TV, and the Rally America Store for the prizes!

Grand Prize Winner!

Remi, from Arverne, NY, is no stranger to rally racing having attended the Sandblast and Rally New York in the past, but this year was his first Sno*Drift Rally. Remi used his previous rally experience to perfect his photography skills and no doubt caught our panel judges attention with his beautiful shot of Andrew Comrie-Picard and Marc Goldfarb powering through the Atlanta, MI snow.

“This photo just spoke to me more so than the others,” said Remi. “My wife was a big influence, too, since she said she like that photo the most. So I submitted it.” No doubt Remi’s wife has a photographer’s eye, which may be his secret to his success. Congratulations to Remi for winning the Subiesport magazine subscription and Drivingsports DVD!

2nd Runners Up!

Kristy Beyer, from Petosey, MI, comes from a family of rally fans, but the Sno*Drift Rally was the first she has ever attended. She picked up the rally bug from her husband and now has become a big fan of the Subaru Rally Team USA.

“I’ve always wanted to go,” explains Kristy, “but life just gets in the way. This was the first time our family could go together. Even though it was so cold, we had a really great time!”

Without any prior action photography experience, Kristy took a stunning shot of Peter and Maureen Hascher kicking up ice in a rally car previously owned by Pat Moro.

“I really like the aggressiveness of the tires, how it’s grabbing traction…” said Kristy. We’ll be seeing more of Kristy as she plans on attending the Ojibwe Forests Rally and the Lake Superior Performance Rally later in the year.

3rd Runners Up!

Scott Rains, from Sturgis, MI, got more than he could ever imagine when he took his picture of Piotr at the Avery Lake Road stage. After visiting his friend’s property, situated conveniently alongside the stage where the runner’s up photo was taken, he discovered a missing bumper cover.

“Surprisingly, it was in pristine shape!” said Scott.

Scott didn’t know who it belonged to, but a little bit of internet searching and watching an online video he found that Andrew Comrie-Picard was sorely needing a back bumper cover. Scott contacted ACP’s team and they offered to give him a car ride at the 100 Acre Wood Rally if he returned the item!

After convincing his wife, Scott took some time off work, drove to the 100 Acre Wood, and ACP strapped him into the co-driver’s seat for the ride of a lifetime! ACP asked him if the ride was what he expected and Scott replied that it was twice more than expected! “The road was twisty with lots of crests and dips! No straightaways at all!” exclaimed Scott.
