2010 Sno*Drift National Rally Update  - Saturday, January 30, 2010
Subaru Rally Team USA’s Travis Pastrana and Christian Edstrom took the overall title to Sno*Drift 2010 in their Open class 2010 Subaru WRX STi.

Second place went to Rockstar’s Antoine L'Estage Nathalie Richard in their Open class 2009 Mitsubishi Evo X.

Third place went to William Bacon and Peter Watt in their Open class in their 2006 Mitsubishi Evo IX.

The Super Production title went to Travis and Terry Hanson in their 2007 Subaru WRX STi; they finished fifth overall.

The Two-Wheel Drive title was awarded to Christopher Duplessis / Catherine Woods in their 1990 Volkswagen GTi. Duplessis came in 11th place overall--an amazing feat considering the ice covered roads and that the next Two-Wheel Drive competitor was 11 cars and over 35 minutes behind.

If you're out there on the stages watching, it can be hard to tell who's going the fastest. Sometimes the craziest, most dramatic-looking sideways action is actually slower than a car that knifes through that same corner.

The way scoring works at a rally event means we aren't able to report the stage times until the cars come back in to a service break. But if you're wearing a watch or have a stopwatch on your cellphone, you can figure out who's fastest past your spectator location.

Here's how:

Cars start the stages one at a time. The fastest, top three cars at this event have two-minute intervals. Everybody else starts in minute intervals.

Pick a point on the road where you want to start timing and hit your stopwatch -- or look at your clock -- when the car slides past it.

Start timing. If the next car on the road passes that point 45 seconds later, then you know that they were 15 seconds faster than the car that was ahead of them. Likewise, if it doesn't show up until 1:30, then they were 30 seconds slower.

Sounds complicated, but it gets easy once you're used to doing it.

And if you want to delegate, ask around. Any co-drivers in the crowd? Get them to do it for you. They love that sort of thing. Trust us.

Saturday schedule  - Saturday, January 30, 2010
Cars started Day 2 in Atlanta, Michigan, with Parc Expose at 8 a.m.

Day 2 features 12 stages and 75 stage miles.

The first four stages of the day (9-12) combine to make a total of 34.65 stage miles.

The first service of the day is scheduled for 10:54 a.m. and each car will be at the Atlanta High School for half an hour.

Teams will head back out to run stages 13-17 -- another 30 stage miles -- and return to service for another 30 minutes at about 4:30.

The final three stages of the day conclude this evening with the first car crossing the finish at about 7:45 in Hillman, Michigan.

Art Gruszka and co-driver Dominik Jozwiak aren't showing up on the scoring page at the moment -- this is due to a technical issue. They're 8th after SS4. This will be resolved shortly!

Pastrana nursing collarbone injury  - Friday, January 29, 2010
Pastrana broke his collarbone last Sunday and had surgery this week to have two plates and 15 screws installed. But he said it isn't going to slow him down. "It's OK. It's strong. It just hurts," Pastrana said Friday.

Spectators are reporting that Travis Pastrana looks fastest out on the stages this afternoon. Travis is first on the road and has a little bit of a traction advantage right now. There's snow on the course under his tires, but he's sweeping it off so everybody else is contending with straight ice.

Moyle and Barton in Car 377 are also done for the day. The duo pulled up to the start of SS2 with a broken tie-rod, but are expect to return to competition Saturday for the Day 2 regional.

Rally cars are on the start for the opening stages of Sno*Drift!

Over the next two days, teams will run 130 stage miles in what the drivers are reporting are incredibly icy conditions.

Friday features eight stages. Teams will run a total of about 55 miles today, with 12 more stages planned for Saturday -- 75 more stage miles.

The first service break of the event is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m. in downtown Lewiston -- after four stages -- when we'll have lots of news and early scores to report.

Teams will be back for the night at about 9 p.m.

Saturday's competition gets going in Atlanta with an 8:30 a.m. ceremonial start.
