Subaru on Mirra's Shoulders
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Since Travis Pastrana DNF’d at the super special this could be the first time in
six years that Subaru will not be in the top three positions at a rally in the
United States. The pressure mounts on fourth place Subaru driver Dave Mirra to
rally through the night and pull Subaru through to the podium.
“I don’t think it’s going to affect anything, I’m going to go out and finish the
way I’m sitting right now.” Was Dave Mirra’s reply to the news of the potential
end to a six year winning streak.
Although, he added, “Wow, rally changes things up, things change quick.”
Pastrana is out, Block leads
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
SRT USA has confirmed that Travis Pastrana and Christian Edstrom will not
continue the 100 Acre Wood Rally. Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino now hold the
overall lead. L'Estage and Bacon are now in second and third, respectively.
If the rally finishes as is, the 2010 100 Acre Wood Rally will be the first
American national championship event without a Subaru on the overall podium
since July 2004, when the Maine Forest Rally ended with a Hyundai and two
Mitsubishis in the top three spots.
Maine Forest Rally - July 30-31 2004
1. Choiniere/Becker - Hyundai Tiburon
2. Lawless/Gillespie - Mitsu Evo 8
3. Comrie-Picard/Goldfarb - Mitsu Evo 4
Drama for Pastrana at SuperSpecial
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Travis Pastrana broke his car's left rear control arm on the Potosi Super
Special stage!
This incident may cost Travis his lead and possibly put him out of the rally.
The crew was seen with the tire off the rim, trying to make repairs, but can
only use "unplanned assistance" from spectators to fix the car out of service.
If SRT USA techs help repair the car outside of service or recover it all
together, Pastrana/Edstrom will DNF. The crew is allowed to be 30 minutes late
to the next control before being disqualified from the rally.
Ken Block is now in a position to win his fifth consecutive 100AW rally. With
L'Estage and Bacon right behind, 100AW may see an overall podium without a
Subaru on it.

Ken Block takes first stage win in Fiesta
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Ken Block takes his first stage win in the Ford Fiesta. Block said, “Today feels
the best so far. This is only my first gravel event in it [car]. I have high
expectations, but I’ve also got to be realistic. I’d love to come here and win,
but I’m in a brand new car with very little time in it.”
Competitor Quotes from Service 1
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Christian Edstrom (Car #199): “We came into a dip really hard on stage six and
just nose wheelied it for like 50 yards and really hit hard.”
Bill Bacon (Car #68): “Not really making any time on anybody in front of us, but
we are getting away from the guys behind us. Overall, been a lot of fun.”
Travis Hanson (Car #523): “I think we are doing a good job maintaining our
lead.”
Carl Decker (Car #693): “We lost our brakes on stage today and had a moment. The
pedal just went to the floor and I went into the ditch to try and scrub some
speed. I used a lot of bushes."
Chris Duplessis (Car #70): "We had a problem with our alignment yesterday so we
were going kind of slow. We'll be pushing harder today."
Henry Krolikowski (Car #44): “Sun’s out, no complaints!”
Don DeRose (Car #494): "The car slid out from under us after landing hard on a
jump and we sideswiped a tree at 75, 80 miles per hour."
Dillon Van Way (Car #600): "We broke our shifter column, lost a lot of time."
Antoine L'Estage falls to third overall
- Saturday, February 27, 2010

Team Quotes from Day 2 Expose
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Here are a few competitor quotes from Parc Expose before teams headed into the
woods for day two's stages:
Nathalie Richard said, “Well we’re about 22 seconds behind Travis and I think we
are still going to push today and hope that he makes a couple little errors or
has a flat or something. So we are still trying to go for it. It’s only our
second time here and the first time we’ve made through four stages. So these are
all new for us, but we are going to go for it.”
Bill Bacon said, “We’re about 30 seconds back on Ken, and 45 seconds or so on
Dave. We’re pretty comfortable with the pace we’ve been going. We can keep ahead
of Dave, and hopefully somebody in front of us makes a mistake. Hopefully it’s
not Antoine and Natalie, but we could get on the podium. I don’t think we’re
gonna be able to take 30 seconds out of Ken, I’m sure he’ll be going for it too.
We’ll try and run the same pace as yesterday and get to the finish.”
Dave Mirra said, “I’m gonna keep the pace and stay smooth and just learn. I’m
gonna get out there and develop and have a good time. My Subaru is running
awesome. The grip is obviously beyond my capabilities right now. I haven’t
really found the limits yet, so I’m going to try and build on it and stay smooth
and have no incidents.”
Gelsomino explains the Fiesta and Focus RS WRC
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino are looking for their fifth consecutive win at 100
Acre Wood this weekend before heading to Rally Mexico for their WRC debut.
Alex tells Rally America about the difference between the two models of Ford
cars MWRT will be using this season:
“The Fiesta has got an excellent chassis. It’s very small and nimble and it’s
very, very powerful. The Focus is obviously under the World Rally Car
specifications and is the top when it comes to rally cars in the world; it is an
amazing piece of kit, the Focus WRC, but the fiesta is not very far behind. If
you think of it as a beginning of the development within the end of the year the
Fiesta we may be very close to World Rally car performance.”
Piotr Wiktorczyk explains his engine fire
- Saturday, February 27, 2010
Piotr Wiktorczyk and Greg Dorman of the Riders Energy Rally Team DNF'd on day
one of the rally due to mechanical failure.
Wiktorczyk explains what happened:
“Basically about four and a half miles into the stage our car lost all its
power. We pulled over and opened the hood and it was on fire. So we got out some
extinguishers, it didn’t want to go out, but the Conleys were kind enough to
pull over. We grabbed their extinguisher and we got the fire out.”
“Most likely the turbo blew a gasket or a hose or something like that and
sprayed oil everywhere. It’s most the turbo, there is no oil in the engine
anymore, so we are pretty sure the engine and turbo is seized.
