A Privateer Podium in Oregon  - Sunday, May 16, 2010
The factory-backed teams that contest the Rally America Championship will not be on the podium at the 2010 Oregon Trail Rally. Both Subaru and Ford’s Works teams retired from the rally early on day two after crashing out of contention.

The Subaru Rally Team USA crew of Dave Mirra/Martin Headland rolled their car near the start of SS6 (Fir Mountain Long I), flattening the roof, all four tires, and losing the bumper. Monster World Rally Team’s Ken Block/Alex Gelsomino rolled on SS8 (Fir Mountain Long II) near the same spot Mirra had his roll. The MWRT Ford Fiesta sustained significant damage to the shell since it is largely made of fiberglass, but the cage is fine and the car is repairable. Both crews were OK and suffered no injuries.

SRT USA’s Travis Pastrana, who won this event in 2008 and 2009, is not entered this year due to a scheduling conflict. Pastrana is in Australia this month touring with his live Nitro Circus show.

Bacon Takes Time Out of ACP  - Sunday, May 16, 2010
Bill Bacon (2nd OA) and Antoine L’Estage (3rd OA) have taken time out of Andrew Comrie-Picard on the first two stages of the day. Bacon/Watt are pushing hard to maintain their position and keep distance from L’Estage/Richard more so than catching Comrie-Picard/Wimpey. Bacon is 33.1 seconds behind ACP going into SS14. L’Estage is simply flying again today, taking 19.8 seconds out of ACP on SS12 and 6.5 seconds on SS13.

ACP is focused on managing the gap between himself and Bacon since L’Estage will not be able to catch him without attrition coming into play.

Top teams were given 3:00 minute dust windows on the first two stages.

Carnage!  - Sunday, May 16, 2010
Attrition has played a big part of this year’s Oregon Trail Rally and LOTS of teams have suffered crashes, rolls, and a wide variety of mechanical demons. OTR’s stage roads are littered with ‘gotcha’s’ that have caught several teams out and made for plenty of close calls. Of the 61 starters, 24 crews have DNF’d so far and 47 are expected to start on the third and final day of the rally.
