Flatirons Subaru to Serve as Main Sponsor of Rally Colorado; Scott Crouch Returns to Event as Driver
Boulder, Colorado-based Flatirons Subaru will serve as the main sponsor of July 20-21’s Rally Colorado, the halfway point of the 2018 Rally America National Championship in Rangely, Colorado. In addition to the event sponsorship, longtime Rally America driver and co-driver and national champion Scott Crouch, general manager of Flatirons Subaru, will enter his #429 Open class Subaru Impreza in the event, just under a month after posting a personal best time in the 96th annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
“Pikes Peak was two weeks ago, but I’m still slightly buzzing,” said Crouch. “This year was Flatirons’ seventh successful finish, and a personal best time for me. Our success was a true team effort, as we ran into issues on qualifying day—what we thought was a dead battery turned out to be an electrical nightmare that took two days of frantic searching to fix. The Flatirons crew was amazing and had the car ready to run on Sunday.
“Very similar to last year, we learned how important qualifying is. I was the last competitor to have a clear weather window before the sky let loose. Two cars finished behind me before the race was stopped due to hail, rain, and snow.”
The series’ inaugural Production GT champion as co-driver for Tanner Foust, Crouch placed second in the Open class and fifth overall in the Prospectors Run Rally, the first regional event in last year’s Rally Colorado. Returning once again to his home event, Crouch will look to improve upon those results in 2018.
“With Pikes Peak behind us, the Flatirons crew is preparing for Rally Colorado. After two rolls last summer, including Colorado, we had to replace the shell on our 2004 Subaru Impreza. The Flatirons crew is working hard, and it’s going to come down to the wire.
“I’m looking forward to getting back on the dirt again. The Colorado rally roads are extremely challenging with technical stages, including some pretty cool downhill switchbacks, as well as fast and flowing stages. It should be interesting with the addition of the UTVs, which are fast in any setting, but when you put Rhys Millen and Stephan Verdier behind the wheel, they’ll be tough to beat.”
