Jake Lang from Schoolcraft, MI won the 2012 Rally America Tagline Contest when fans voted for his winning entry, “Drive Fast, Brake Hard!” on http://www.facebook.com/RallyAmerica. Lang won a swag bag of Rally America gear and he quickly took advantage of a once-in-lifetime opportunity to ride in a rally car at the Sno*Drift Rally, his home rally event!

On a chilly day, yet warm for Sno*Drift Rally standards, teams assembled at a practice stage before the event. 2001 Belgium Rally Champion, David Sterckx, offered to take Lang on a ride in his brand new Super Production 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Sno*Drift was Sterckx’s first Rally America National Championship event and the first snow rally in which he competed. He went on to finish a respectable 3rd in the Super Production Class with co-driver Karen Jankowski.

At the practice stage start Lang was strapped into the car by Jankowski, while Sterckx immediately gave him a set of pace notes to read.

“I had no idea I was going to do more than just sit in the car,” said Lang after the ride-along. “I tried to keep up, but I wasn’t sure if I actually confused him instead.”

“The ride was awesome! It’s the fastest I’ve ever been on ice. But we got lost on the way back to the stage and I had to use the GPS on my phone to help us get back,” said Lang.

Rally America’s new tagline will be used for 2012. Thank you to all who submitted taglines for consideration. Each entry contained the essence of the sport and the selection panel found it difficult selecting just five entries for fan voting.

Round 2 of the Rally America National Championship takes place at the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood on February 24-25th in Salem, MO.

The 2012 Rally America National Championship is proudly supported by VP Racing Fuels - the Official Fuel of Rally America, Exedy Racing Clutches, Hawk Performance Brakes, ParkNBlend and RECARO seats.
