After gearbox issues ended their Rally Colorado early, Piotr Fetela and Dominik Jozwiak are back on top of the Rally America field halfway through Saturday’s Sno*Drift Summer Rally.

Fetela and Jozwiak posted a time of 22:21.5 through the first four stages of the eight-stage event, leading second place overall (and Open Light class leaders) Dave and Mike Brown by 55.9 seconds. Defending event winners Nathan Usher and Marianna Langosch rank third overall, just 9.9 seconds behind Brown/Brown for both second overall and the Open Light lead. Fetela/Jozwiak won all four stages to open the event.

A red cross was thrown on SS4, the second pass at Meaford-Mills, after the Weird Beard Rally team of Mike Erickson and Jacob Good rolled over on stage and blocked off the road. Both driver and co-driver were unharmed. They were joined on the DNF list by four other competitors, including fellow Group 2 contenders Adam VanDamme and Aaron Randles of Tower City Rally Team.

Two of the five Daddy-Daughter Challenge competitors suffered DNFs during the first leg of the event, with Michael and Lauren Engle facing gearbox problems and Steve and Katie Gingras dealing with power steering trouble, both on SS3. Gingras/Gingras will try to return to action for the second leg of the event. Group 2 class leaders Mike and Katherine Hurst lead the Daddy-Daughter competitors with a time of 25:18.9, also good for seventh overall.

Cars will begin to leave service to compete in the second half of Sno*Drift Summer Rally at 5:15PM local time. The first cars to finish the event are expected back at 7:50PM.
